Breeding in the Seventies

In the seventies the then 14 years old H.E. Gruettner was allowed to choose his first dog and having studied a lot of numerous books he decided on a terrier, on the approach. By aid of his parents a visit to a Dog Show was to be of further help. When reaching the show the final decision did not use much time - a decision that was apt to be quite impressive throughout his further life. Just beside the entrance Irish Terriers were to be judged, and in April 1973 this breed entered the home of the Gruettners'.

Paternus Tessie

He made his choice on the bitch "Paternus Tessie", a daughter of the Champion male "Russetone Sawdust" and the Champion bitch "Paternus Aimara", very well known in the shows of that time, of the breeder Wilfried Henrich. Though the parents had been highly decorated dogs it sure that there was no thought on breeding or showing at that time. "Toxi", the new member of the family, enjoyed the family and was a true companion in all affairs of life.

A lot of time had passed by when H.E. Gruettner came into contact with the shows again, and in 1977 the kennel "von der Emsmuehle" was founded. In the meantime "Paternus Tessie" was presented in shows as the correct way of trimming and showing was to be exercised to a rather great extent. You know, no man is born a master of his craft. The first step is the hardest! On July 14th, 1977 the first litter fell giving birth to six whelps (two dogs/four bitches).

The first step is the hardest ... Aphrodite von der Emsmuehle

By the expert guidance of Mr F.W. Schöneberg "Ch. Shannon von der Frankenlerche" was chosen as stud dog, a multiple Champion and World Winner. It was really a good decision as has been proved later on for he was one of the best hereditors of his time. Even nowadays one line of the kennel "von der Emsmuehle" originates from him. Doing this there had already been done the first step towards a show career.

Ares von der Emsmuehle

Out of this first mating the two Champions "Aphrodite and Ares von der Emsmuehle" originated, and both of them had astonishing successes considering a "beginner's" job. "Aphrodite" won many a title as Champion and "Ares", too, became Youth Champion in 1978, Club Youth Winner and later KfT-Champion. He is now owned by Mr Josef Hornung.

Having found pleasure in this interesting hobby both of the dogs toured Europe together with their owners. Some time elapsed until a second litter fell; this happened on May 19th, 1980.
